Long Term Exchange
Long Term is first of the two options you have as an exchange student. Here are some details.
Students age 15.5 to 18.5
11 month exchange duration.
School attendance is required.
Students live with 1 to 4 host families throughout the year.
Total immersion program to learn a culture and language.
A local family will be invited to host an inbound exchange student during your absence.
Your family helps secure 3 host families and 1 emergency host family for the inbound exchange student during your absence.

Start the Application Process:

Applications due NOVEMBER 1ST.
Go to the ESSEX (Eastern States Student Exchange) website: www.exchangestudent.org
Click on Long Term Exchange.
Read all of the Long Term page before beginning the application process
Follow all the prompts accordingly when filling out the online application.
Payment instructions will be included in the online application process.
You will need to make appointments with your Doctor and Dentist to have some of this application completed. This will take the most time, so make the appointments with both immediately to expedite the process.
Be sure to use a current school photo or a current passport photo ONLY for the first page photo (do not include a snapshot or selfie)
When the YE Chair receives the completed application, you will receive the details of the required Interviews.

Things you need to know to complete the Long Term Application:
The information below MUST be included on your application:
We are in Rotary District 7255.
You MUST contact your sponsoring Club Youth Exchange Officer and/or the District Youth Exchange Chair for detailed club information that MUST be included on your Long Term Application.
- Your sponsoring Rotary club name and Rotary club identification number located here.
- Your sponsoring Rotary club president name, email address and phone #.
- Your sponsoring Rotary club Youth Exchange Officer (YEO) name, email address and phone #.

Fees and Costs
$300 nonrefundable application fee
Outbound Training fees $1,500.00, made in monthly payments if necessary, with the balance paid by June 1st.
Students should be prepared to bring their own money for expenses during their exchange year abroad, which could be in the form of a debit/credit card for school supplies, toiletries, makeup, clothes, touring money, emergencies, etc. approximately $500 - $1000.
Roundtrip airfare and ground transportation $1400 -$2800 (this will vary according to the country exchanging to).
Travel insurance is required (this will vary according to the country exchanging to, $800.
Some countries require additional Travel Insurance (this will vary according to the country exchanging to)
Some countries require language camp, approximately $ 300.
Emergency Funds is a requirement of man districts to be used for unusual or unexpected expenses, $300 - $500.
Optional travel opportunities such as tours approved by your host district, $100 - $3000.
Students are paid a monetary allowance by the Hosting Rotary Club during their exchange year, $75-$125 monthly (which varies by country and club)
